Livi's Room..... the bare bones

New baby girl will be here pretty soon and I have finally finished the new room for Livi to move in to. Travis has been out of town off and on these past few weeks and I've tried to squeeze in a few projects. I painted one weekend.... if you can't tell very well from the pictures... it's a light purple on top and just white on the bottom. Then my Sister in law Miriam helped me cut and put up the chair rail. Next project was working on the headboard. I just bought a $8 piece of MDF at Home Depot and had them cut it down to 45in x 60in. I stapled padding to it

I didn't have enough to cover all of it.... so I just put it where it seemed functional.

Next, I took a couple of old Twin sheets and started making the ruffled part. I covered the headboard with the fitted sheet and then cut off the extra material along the back.I then took the flat sheet and cut it into strips. I sewed a gathering stitch along the whole edge of the strips. I then pinned on a couple of strips at a time and then sewed them on to the fitted sheet.

Every few strips I would put it on the headboard and make sure everything lined up.

I took this picture after I finished all the strips.... There is something SO girly and fun about holding an extremely large amount of ruffles. I totally felt like a giddy little girl. I also thought about making it into a skirt for me.... only for a minute.

Then brought it up stairs.... and voila... ruffled headboard checked off of my to do list!

t

This is only the bare bones of the room and I have lots of other plans for decorating and sprucing it up... but at least it is ready for Livi to move into. I can slowly add all the fluff over the next few months. I'll post those pics as I go!
